Collection: Carpets / Rugs

Over a long period of time, we have been accumulating very unique kilims and carpets, mostly antique or vintage.  Of course, they had to be hand-woven/knotted with mainly handspun wool and natural/vegetable dyes. Since the materials used in weaving were not bleached, there should not be any allergies to them.  The dyes were cured with pine saps or with other natural processes as opposed to animal urine that is used, such as, in Afghanistan; therefore, your pets should not do their business on these state-of-the-art pieces.

IF A KILIM OR A CARPET WAS WOVEN OVER 100 YRS AGO, IT IS AN ANTIQUE, IF IT WAS WOVEN LESS THAN 100 YRS AGO BUT MORE THAN 20 YRS, THEN IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE VINTAGE.  MANY VINTAGE RUGS ARE DESIRED FOR DECORATIVE LOOKS.  SOME OF THE ARE OVER-DYED.  THEY ARE ALL ONE-OF-A-KIND & SOLD AS IS.

These kilim & carpets were mostly woven for specific reasons, such as dowry, gift, commission based by someone, or for the decoration of one’s home.  That is why they are not regular sizes like today’s rugs in perfect sizes or colors.

These are very rare finds, because the art of weaving in these original areas is disappearing very fast due to more opportunities in big cities.  Weaving was a pastime activity in most of rural areas of greater Mesopotamia to Central Asia and the source of income as well.
