Zahur Carpet

This is a very well woven rug with hand spun wool and vegetable dyes.  It is also all wool on wool and hand carved in the antique style of the region.  These rugs were woven by DOBAG project which had started in the late 1980s by Dr. Bohmer in Ayvacik/Ezine area on the Dardanelles of Turkey.

The design is taken from the antiqueties of Turkic weaving of Central Asia.  This particular one is called "Zahur" or "zehir" that is "poison" which is forewarning for those who mean harm and keep them away.
